Four Hours on Friday Afternoon Could Scramble Flights Across Italy

Airport terminal in Rome

Staff at ENAV, Italy’s air navigation service provider, plan a nationwide four-hour strike on Friday, November 6, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time. The action is organized by the unions FILT-CGIL and UGL-TA, and it lands at a busy hour for departures and connections across the country.

A separate local action is planned at Bari Airport by the Fast Confsal AV union, announced on October 30 and running over the same afternoon window. ENAV says legally required essential services will be maintained during the Bari action, though that does not guarantee that every flight will operate as scheduled.

As of November 3, no total of cancellations had been confirmed, and a strike notice does not mean all staff will walk out or that airports will close. Italian strikes of this kind typically protect certain flights, and disruption can be uneven, with some airports and airlines affected far more than others.

Travelers with flights between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., or with connections that depend on them, should check with their airline and consider rebooking earlier or later if there is flexibility. Under EU rules, a cancelled flight entitles passengers to a refund or rerouting, though cash compensation is often not due when strikes are involved.
