JetBlue has raised its checked baggage fees for the second time this year. The minimum charge for a first checked bag on most North American, Latin American and Caribbean routes moves from $39 to $50 each way for tickets bought on or after November 3, 2026. In May 2024 the same bag started at $35, so the price has climbed roughly 43% in about two and a half years.
The $50 figure applies to off-peak travel when the bag is prepaid more than 24 hours before departure. Peak dates cost $55, and adding a bag within 24 hours of departure costs $60 off-peak or $70 at peak. A second bag runs $70 to $85 depending on timing, a third is $200, and on transatlantic flights the first bag on the cheapest fares starts at $80.
The increase reaches beyond basic economy: Main and Main Flex travelers pay too, unless they hold Mint fares, TrueBlue Mosaic status or an eligible JetBlue credit card that includes a free first bag. Tickets bought before November 3 keep the old fee schedule, so existing bookings are unaffected. A peak-season round trip with one bag could now cost $110 prepaid or $140 at the airport.
JetBlue pointed to rising fuel and operating costs and said the change helps keep base fares competitive. The airline reported a $257 million third-quarter loss. After its March increase, other large US carriers adjusted their own fees within weeks, so travelers may want to check bag pricing before comparing fares across airlines.
