Nepal Just Had Its Busiest Month of the Year So Far

Nepal recorded 132,814 international visitor arrivals in October 2026, according to the Nepal Tourism Board, as reported on November 4. That is 3.4 percent more than the 128,443 counted in October 2025 and the highest monthly total of the year so far. October is the heart of the autumn trekking season, when clear skies make the Himalayan views at their best.

The United States was the top source market with 17,437 arrivals, or 13.13 percent of the total. India followed with 12,097, China with 11,695, the United Kingdom with 9,385 and Australia with 9,352. By region, Europe was the largest, accounting for about 30 percent of arrivals.

Year-to-date arrivals passed one million within the first ten months of 2026. The October number is a modest increase rather than a surge, but it shows that demand in the post-monsoon season is holding up and growing slightly. The data comes from a single published report, so figures could be revised in later tourism board releases.

For travelers, the practical takeaway is that autumn remains the busiest time for flights into Kathmandu, trekking permits and lodge beds on popular routes. Those considering a trip in the spring season should book early, since the same crowding patterns tend to repeat. Nepal and Sri Lanka both reported strong October numbers this week, a sign of steady recovery across South Asia.
