Sri Lanka welcomed 168,625 international visitors in October 2026, the highest October total on record, according to figures from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority reported on November 3. The number is up 2.1 percent from 165,193 in October 2025. The previous best October was in 2018, when arrivals reached 153,123.
India was the largest source market by a wide margin, with 62,211 arrivals, about 37 percent of the total. The United Kingdom followed with 12,402, then China with 11,190, Australia with 8,509 and Germany with 8,027. Russia sent 6,750 visitors, France 5,042 and the United States 3,749.
The month averaged about 5,440 arrivals a day. The busiest day was October 17, with 7,045 arrivals, and the busiest week was October 15 to 21, with 42,739. Local reporting notes that the sector is still recovering from the 2019 Easter attacks and the later economic crisis, which makes a new October high a meaningful milestone rather than a routine monthly gain.
One caveat is that October is traditionally a shoulder month ahead of the winter peak, so the record reflects early momentum rather than the high season itself. Even so, the growth is modest at 2.1 percent, and the market mix, with India alone supplying more than a third of visitors, shows how concentrated the recovery is. Travelers heading to the island in December and January should expect busier conditions.
