At World Travel Market London, Kerala Tourism has built a 100-square-metre stand themed “State of Wonder,” and its look comes straight from the state’s Pooram festivals. Decorative representations of caparisoned elephants, colourful parasols and traditional cultural displays set the scene, and a traditional performer has been drawing attention on the show floor.
The message behind the spectacle is that a Kerala holiday can be built around cultural encounters, landscapes and wellness, not only a classic sightseeing circuit. The tourism department is presenting packages that combine natural scenery, local communities, living traditions and Ayurveda-based wellness.
The delegation is led by P C Vishnunadh, Kerala’s Minister for Tourism, Cinema and Culture, with Kerala Tourism director Anjana M and representatives of seven tourism trade partners. WTM runs from 3 to 5 November at ExCeL London. The department says the pavilion has attracted visitors and potential business partners since it opened on 3 November, though it has not released a count of visitors or resulting bookings.
For travellers, the pitch is a sign of where Kerala wants to steer demand: toward longer, experience-led itineraries rather than quick stops. The real test will be whether operators can turn those themes into packages that are easy to book from abroad, a step the state acknowledges still has to happen after the trade show closes.
