Qantas has opened every seat on a set of designated flights for points bookings, a program it calls Points Planes. The first release covers 10 return services, or 20 flights, to Japan in January, Paris in February and Hobart over the Australian summer school holidays, all for 2027 travel.
Booking opened at 9 a.m. Sydney time on Friday, November 6, and closes at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, so the window is short. Qantas says more Points Planes will arrive monthly through 2027, with Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Vancouver named as future destinations. Some of the flights use A380 or 787 aircraft.
The pricing examples show how the points stack up one way. Sydney to Paris via Singapore starts at 63,500 points in Economy, 124,700 in Premium Economy and 166,300 in Business. Sydney or Melbourne to Tokyo starts at 36,200 in Economy and 98,400 in Business, while Brisbane to Tokyo starts at 29,000 and 82,100. Melbourne to Hobart starts at 9,200 in Economy.
As with other Classic Flight Rewards, taxes, fees and carrier charges are paid separately, and the bookings generally do not earn Qantas Points or Status Credits. Qantas says roughly 10 reward seats are booked every minute, which suggests the best-priced options may not last the full weekend.
