Kansas City Gets a Saturday Ticket to the Caribbean

Southwest Airlines is adding a Caribbean route out of the Midwest. Beginning in June 2027, it will fly nonstop between Kansas City and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The airline’s route is described as the only nonstop between the two cities.

The flight will operate once a week, on Saturdays. That fits a classic vacation pattern, with travelers leaving at the weekend and returning a week later. The announcement coverage did not mention fares, so pricing will become clear only when seats go on sale.

For Kansas City travelers, the practical benefit is skipping a connection. Reaching Puerto Rico from the Midwest often means changing planes at a large hub, which adds hours and a chance of missed connections. A nonstop flight removes that risk, even if it only runs on one day.

A once-weekly schedule is limiting, so the route suits week-long stays better than quick trips. Anyone interested should watch for the on-sale date and keep dates flexible to land on the Saturday flight.
