A nationwide strike notice from French flight crews covers five days, from 00:01 on Saturday, October 17 to 23:59 on Wednesday, October 21, Paris time. It lands exactly as France’s Toussaint school holidays begin, one of the busiest travel stretches of the autumn.
AirHelp reports that five unions, SNPL, UNSA-PNC, SNPNC-FO, SNGAF and UNAC, filed the notice, covering Air France, Transavia France and Corsair. Travel Extra adds that Volotea could also be hit, and that easyJet and Ryanair flights using French-based crews may see localized cancellations. Paris Charles de Gaulle, Orly, Nice, Lyon and Marseille are the airports most exposed.
The dispute is political rather than a squabble with any one airline. The unions are protesting a government plan to reform the Cumul-Emploi-Retraite pension scheme from January 1, 2027, which they say would weaken retirement arrangements for air crew. They say they are open to talks, and the strike goes ahead unless a deal is reached before it begins.
No airline has published a detailed cancellation plan yet, with clearer schedule changes likely 48 to 72 hours beforehand. Passengers keep rights to rebooking or a refund and to meals and accommodation if stranded, though compensation under EU rules is unlikely because the cause is outside airline control.
