American’s Austin Lounge Is Getting Something No Admirals Club Has Had Before

American Airlines plans to build a new Admirals Club at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, and it will include the first outdoor terrace in the Admirals Club network. The lounge is planned for the west side of the terminal and will be about 12,000 square feet, nearly double the roughly 6,000 square feet of the current space.

The new club will use American’s newer lounge design, with views of downtown Austin and the airfield. It will have separate zones for relaxing, dining, working and recharging, a layout that is meant to help big lounges feel less crowded. The outdoor terrace is the headline feature, since American’s clubs have traditionally been entirely indoors.

No opening date has been announced. Construction is due to start in 2026, and the analyst who reported the news estimates the lounge will open in late 2027 or 2028. The existing lounge will stay open until the new one is ready, so travelers will not lose access in the meantime.

The investment is notable given the airline’s history in Austin. American has pulled back from an earlier push to build a focus city there, while Delta has expanded its presence. A bigger, nicer lounge suggests American still sees the airport as important to its premium customers, even if it is flying fewer routes than it once planned.
