Etihad Found a Way Into Nigeria Before Its Planes Even Land

City scene in Lagos, Nigeria

Etihad Airways and Nigeria’s Ibom Air have signed an interline agreement, a deal that lets passengers book one ticket covering both airlines and have bags checked through to the final destination. It arrives months before Etihad’s own planes begin serving West Africa.

Etihad plans daily nonstop service from Abu Dhabi to Lagos starting March 23, 2027, and four weekly flights to Accra from March 24. Ibom Air will then carry travelers onward to Abuja, Uyo, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Enugu, with Accra connections to Abuja and Uyo included.

Combined tickets go on sale November 3, 2026. That timing means travelers can start planning trips that pair Gulf connections with Nigerian domestic hops well before the first Etihad flight touches down in Lagos.

Executives from both airlines framed the deal as groundwork for growth. Etihad called Nigeria central to its long-term African ambitions, while Ibom Air’s chief executive said the partnership positions his airline as the key domestic and regional link for Etihad’s Nigeria and Ghana operations.
