Amtrak has launched a sale that effectively halves the price of a sleeper-car getaway for two. Under the Twice as Nice offer, a second passenger travels free when a first-class roomette is booked. The catch is the clock: bookings must be made by October 31, 2026, while travel itself can happen anywhere from November 1 through January 31, 2027.
The deal covers most of Amtrak’s long-distance routes, but the southbound Auto Train, Train 53, is excluded. Both travelers must be on the same itinerary, share the same accommodation and have tickets issued together. Some dates around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday periods are blacked out, so the busiest days of the season are not part of the promotion.
Fine print matters here. The offer is not valid on bookings made with Guest Rewards points or Points and Cash, and it cannot be combined with other discounts. Availability is limited, and roomettes on popular routes tend to sell out, so flexibility on departure dates will help travelers actually find a qualifying space.
A roomette includes two seats that convert to beds, an oversized window, linens, pillows and towels, complimentary meals, access to restrooms and showers, a dedicated room attendant and priority boarding. Eligible bookings also come with access to Metropolitan Lounges at major stations, which adds value for anyone starting a long journey on the rails.
