United Is Opening What It Calls the Biggest Airline Lounge in the Americas

United Airlines is opening a new North Concourse in Terminal B at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Thursday, and the centerpiece is a United Club that the airline says is the largest airline lounge in the Americas. It covers roughly 54,000 square feet and seats about 800 guests, with an outdoor terrace.

The concourse itself is a three-level building of about 765,000 square feet with 22 gates. Every United flight using it will board through a jet bridge, and the design leans on high ceilings, large gathering spaces and views across the airfield, along with new concession and retail space.

It is the first major piece of a $2.6 billion rebuild of Terminal B that broke ground in 2024. The South Concourse, which has 26 gates, is getting a similar overhaul, and the original building there dates to 1969, so the change from the old facilities is likely to be dramatic for anyone who connects through Houston.

United chief executive Scott Kirby said the concourse sets a new standard for facilities across the country. Houston is one of the airline’s biggest hubs, so the upgrade matters for the many travelers who pass through it each day on the way to Latin America, Europe and across the United States.
