Oriental Land Company, which operates Tokyo Disney Resort, has named its first cruise ship: Disney Imagination. The Wish-class vessel will homeport in Tokyo and is slated to debut in spring 2029, giving Japan its first Disney-branded ship based in the country.
Early details point to a familiar Disney Cruise Line experience. The ship will carry Ariel and Sebastian on its stern, reflecting the Little Mermaid theme chosen for the name reveal, and will offer roughly 30 dining venues. It is being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.
What the company has not said is just as important for planning. Itineraries, pricing and booking dates have not been announced, so anyone hoping to sail in 2029 should treat the news as a long-range heads-up rather than something to book now. Japan’s ports and short regional itineraries will likely shape the product.
The announcement signals how seriously cruise brands are courting Asian markets, where homeport sailings can fill ships with travelers who never need to fly to board. For families already planning Tokyo Disney trips, a ship in the harbor could eventually become part of the vacation itself.
