Elite members have long wondered where they stand in the hotel upgrade queue. Marriott is now testing a feature that would answer the question directly, showing elites how many complimentary upgrades are available for their stay and where they sit on the list.
Under the test, members would receive a notification one day before arrival. That timing gives travelers a realistic sense of whether a better room is likely, instead of discovering the outcome only at the front desk. It also lets guests decide whether to spend points or cash on a paid upgrade if the free option looks unlikely.
There is an important limit. Nightly Upgrade Awards, the benefit that Titanium and Ambassador members can request in advance, take priority and are not counted in the numbers shown. So the figure reflects only the pool of complimentary upgrades that remain after those awards are honored.
Marriott has not announced a wider rollout, and it is still a test, so not every member will see the feature. If it expands, it would add rare transparency to a part of loyalty programs that has historically been opaque and discretionary.
