The Kuala Lumpur Airport Express Is Getting Pricier, and Faster

The KLIA Ekspres, the fast train linking Kuala Lumpur International Airport with KL Sentral, has announced fare increases that take effect on January 1, 2027. The adult single fare rises from RM55 to RM65, and the return fare from RM100 to RM118.

Alongside the higher fares, the operator plans a service upgrade: trains every 15 minutes in the first quarter of 2027, instead of the current 20-minute interval. The ride itself takes about 28 minutes from Terminal 1, so the more frequent schedule should cut waiting time for travelers arriving at awkward hours.

Until the change, today’s prices still apply. Children aged 6 to 15 pay RM25 one way, and tickets purchased online carry a published 10 percent discount. The slower KLIA Transit, which stops at Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, charges the same standard fare under the current schedule.

For visitors, the practical takeaway is to compare the train with alternatives, such as taxis or ride-hailing, once the new prices arrive. A larger fare is still modest next to many airport rail links in the region, and speed and predictability often outweigh a few ringgit for travelers with tight connections.
