Train traffic over the Oresund Bridge, the link between Copenhagen and Malmo, is scheduled to stop from March 20 to 29, 2027 for maintenance. The closure is announced well in advance, giving travelers about five months to adjust spring plans that cross between Denmark and Sweden.
Track works on the Danish side run March 20 to 25, and the effects will reach beyond the bridge itself. Night operator Snalltaget plans to replace its Sweden-to-Berlin night trains and its Hamburg daytime trains with buses, and to suspend its other services to Denmark and Germany during the work.
That matters for anyone building an overland itinerary through the region. Rail passes and cross-border tickets may need rerouting, and travelers should expect longer journey times on any bus replacement. Reserving early on alternatives such as ferries or flights will help avoid the last-minute price spike that often follows a transport closure.
The advice is simple: if you are planning a trip across the strait in late March 2027, check operators’ timetables as they publish them and consider shifting dates by a week. Maintenance windows like this tend to be firm, so waiting for a change of plans is unlikely to pay off.
