A Transatlantic Cruise for $69 a Night Needs a Close Read of the Fine Print

Virgin Voyages is running a Sail & Save promotion called Lock It In, with rates starting at roughly $69 to $119 per sailor per night on select near-term sailings. The headline example is a 14-night transatlantic crossing from Miami to Morocco and Spain, advertised from $69 a night.

That works out to a low per-night figure for a long voyage, but the fine print matters. The rates are per sailor, apply only to select sailings, and are described as refreshing weekly, so the price you see on one day may not be there the next. Taxes, fees and gratuities are typically extra on cruise fares, and one-way positioning trips can add flight costs.

Repositioning cruises like this often look cheap because the ship is moving between seasonal markets and demand is lower. They also mean many days at sea, which suits travelers who want downtime and may disappoint those who prefer a port every day.

Other lines are also running promotions this month, including Margaritaville at Sea’s Black Friday early access offer, advertised at up to 65 percent off through November 3. As always, compare the full price after fees, and check cancellation terms before locking in a deal.
