Hilton Found a Way Into the Nordics Without Building a Single Hotel Itself

Hilton has signed a multi-year agreement with Stockholm-based Scandic Hotels Group to grow its presence across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Scandic, which has more than 300 hotels in operation and development, will run the new properties under a franchise agreement with Hilton.

The first project is a new-build Hilton next to Copenhagen Airport, scheduled to open in 2029 with 284 rooms. Hilton CEO Christopher Nassetta called the deal a significant milestone for the company, reflecting how much of Hilton’s growth now comes from partners who operate hotels under its brands.

For travelers, the headline benefit is loyalty. The two companies say the agreement will bring new member benefits to both Hilton Honors and Scandic loyalty program members, which could make points more useful for stays around Scandinavia, where chain hotels are dense in the cities.

The announcement did not say how many Hilton-branded hotels Scandic will ultimately add or which cities come after Copenhagen, so the scale of the rollout is still unclear. The airport hotel in 2029 is the only concrete project so far.
