British Airways Quietly Raised the Bar for Frequent-Flyer Status

British Airways Club members will need more tier points to hold status from next spring. According to Head for Points, from April 1, 2027, the start of BA’s next collection year, Silver rises from 7,500 to 8,000 tier points and Gold from 20,000 to 21,000. Bronze stays at 3,500. The Gold Guest List gets harder to reach too: renewal goes from 40,000 to 45,000 tier points, and initial entry from 65,000 to 70,000.

The flight-count routes are unchanged, with Silver still available at 50 flights and Bronze at 25 flights. The figures appeared on BA’s website without a formal announcement, were removed, and then reappeared overnight, which Head for Points says suggests they were published early. Readers should treat the numbers as BA’s published thresholds but watch for an official statement confirming them.

Earning is changing as well. The tier points available through the BA American Express Premium Plus card rise from 2,500 to 3,000 a year from April 1, 2027, and tier points from buying Sustainable Aviation Fuel credits increase to 2,000 a year. Against that, Head for Points later reported that the bonus tier points earned from flying are being cut by up to 60%, which will make it harder to reach the higher thresholds through flights alone.

The site suggests the timing may be linked to higher fares, which it connects to Middle East-related fuel price increases. Because BA status is based on spending, higher fares could push more members into the top tiers, and bigger thresholds would offset that. Members close to a tier should check their balance well before the current collection year ends on March 31.
