Budapest to Belgrade by Train Is Back, With Tickets Already on Sale

Direct passenger trains between Budapest and Belgrade are set to resume on December 13, with two departures in each direction every day. Tickets are already on sale through the Hungarian Railways (MÁV) website.

Single fares start at €41.40 in second class and €62 in first class, according to a rail news roundup published on November 1. The return of the service is tied to a new Budapest–Belgrade railway line that is due to open in December, a project that has long been discussed as a way to shorten the trip between the two capitals.

Further connections are expected as well. Through trains running Vienna–Budapest–Belgrade are anticipated, although no start date has been announced, which would let travelers cross much of central Europe without changing trains if the plan materializes.

For anyone planning a winter trip through the region, the practical takeaway is that the fares are published now and the first departures are about six weeks away. Check the MÁV booking page for exact timetables and seat availability, and confirm the schedule again closer to departure, since the opening of a new line can shift timings.
