Royal Caribbean’s Biggest Ship Yet Is About to Meet Its First American Passengers

Cruise ship at sea

Legend of the Seas, the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, is arriving in Fort Lauderdale for its first U.S. season, and its debut sailing from Port Everglades leaves on November 8. Caribbean Journal bills it as the line’s biggest ship yet.

That first trip is a three-night Perfect Day Getaway. The ship departs at 8 p.m., calls at the line’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, on November 9, spends November 10 at sea and returns on November 11. It is a short, low-commitment way to sample a vessel that will otherwise be sold on longer Caribbean itineraries.

Onboard, the ship carries seven pools, the Category 6 waterpark that Royal Caribbean describes as the largest at sea, and Crown’s Edge, a ropes course, skywalk and thrill ride combination. Eight neighborhoods organize the decks, with 28 dining options listed, among them Royal Railway–Legend Station and the Hollywoodland Supper Club. The theater production is a stage version of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The second sailing, on November 14, is an eight-night Southern Caribbean and Perfect Day itinerary calling at Willemstad in Curaçao, Oranjestad in Aruba and CocoCay. Six-night Western Caribbean and further eight-night Southern Caribbean cruises round out the Fort Lauderdale program, so travelers eyeing the ship have several lengths to choose from.
