United Airlines has added personal Spotify streaming to seatback screens on eligible Starlink-equipped aircraft, according to a November 5 announcement. Passengers join United Wi-Fi, open Spotify on the screen, scan a QR code and approve the pairing on their phone. Per the coverage, no separate Wi-Fi pass or MileagePlus sign-in is needed just for Spotify.
Both Spotify Free and Premium users can open the app, though playback options vary by plan and market. Travelers can disconnect during the flight, and the account is logged out automatically after landing, which addresses the obvious worry about leaving your music account on a shared screen.
It is a rollout, not a switch. The feature is available only on eligible Starlink-equipped aircraft, and United says about half of the fleet will have it by spring 2027. Starlink installation is targeted fleet-wide by the end of 2027, and Starlink Wi-Fi is already on more than half of United’s daily flights.
The scale is notable: United cites more than 181,000 seatback screens, roughly 85 percent of its mainline fleet, and expects to pass 219,000 by the end of 2027. Its 2025 curated Spotify collection drew 2.3 million users and more than 1.9 million listening hours, which helps explain why the airline is making the personal version a feature.
