One Chilean Port Is Quietly Welcoming a Quarter More Cruise Ships

Valparaíso, the main cruise port on Chile’s central coast, is preparing for a busier season. The Corporación de Puertos del Conosur says 30 cruise calls are scheduled through April 2027, up from 24 ships recorded in the previous season. That works out to a 25 percent increase.

The season opened on October 17, when HX Expeditions’ Fridtjof Nansen pulled into the Valparaíso Port Terminal after sailing from Callao, Peru. It is the first of the season’s calls, and the schedule runs until April 15, 2027, when the Roald Amundsen is due to depart.

For travelers, the port is a gateway to Chile’s capital region and wine country, and it is a frequent stop on longer South America itineraries that round Cape Horn or sail between Peru and Chile. More calls generally mean more itinerary options for cruisers building a Pacific-side trip.

The announcement did not include passenger forecasts, so it is not yet clear how many additional visitors the extra calls will bring. Even so, a jump from 24 to 30 ships is a notable vote of confidence from the cruise lines in this stretch of coastline.
