Ryanair Is Betting €50 Million on a Hangar in Shannon

Ryanair has won local approval for a €50 million ($56 million) maintenance facility at Shannon Airport in Ireland, according to Aviation Week. The project includes a four-bay hangar that will be the airline’s largest in Ireland.

Construction is expected to start in early 2027. The site will also include an engineering academy for up to 80 apprentices, as part of plans to train more than 400 mechanics between 2027 and 2031.

The training element is the notable part for an industry that has struggled to find skilled technicians. A dedicated academy attached to a large hangar gives the airline a way to grow its own workforce close to where the aircraft will be maintained.

The roundup does not say whether the hangar will change Ryanair’s route network or fares, and it gives no opening date, so for passengers this is an infrastructure story rather than a schedule change. Travelers flying Ryanair from Shannon should not expect any difference in their journeys until the facility is built.
