Banyan Tree Just Opened Its First Safari Lodge, Six Villas Deep in Tanzania

A safari landscape in East Africa

Banyan Group has opened its first safari lodge, and it chose one of Tanzania’s lesser-known wildlife areas to do it. Ubuyu, A Banyan Tree Escape, sits in Ruaha National Park and is the group’s first property in Tanzania.

The lodge is intimate: six private villas set along the Great Ruaha River. Guests arrive via the Msembe Airstrip, a reminder that remote parks are often reached by light aircraft rather than long road transfers. A Maji Spa rounds out the amenities.

The lodge also supports the Ruaha Conservation Project, tying the stay to local wildlife protection. That kind of partnership has become a standard selling point for upscale safari operators, who increasingly pitch their camps as funding sources for the places guests come to see.

Ruaha is often described as quieter than Tanzania’s northern circuit, which makes a small lodge there appealing to travelers who want fewer vehicles at a sighting. Rates were not part of the announcement coverage reviewed here, so interested guests will need to contact the operator directly.
