A Fuerteventura Resort Opens Today With 20 Swimming Pools

Sandy beach and turquoise water on Fuerteventura

A large new resort is welcoming its first guests on Fuerteventura today. Elba Corralejo Resort & Spa opens on Nov. 1 in the Canary Islands, bringing 478 rooms and no fewer than 20 swimming pools to the island’s northern coast, according to Euronews Travel’s November guide to new European hotels.

The pool count is the headline number, but the property is also built around restaurants, a spa and wellness facilities, and activities for families. A resort of this scale is designed to keep guests on site for most of a stay, which suits the Canaries’ appeal as a winter-sun destination when much of mainland Europe is cold.

Fuerteventura is the second-largest of the Canary Islands and is known for long beaches and steady winds, which make it popular with surfers and kitesurfers. The opening adds capacity at the high-volume end of the island’s hotel market just as the winter season gets under way.

Details such as nightly rates, room categories and meal plans were not part of the opening announcement summary, so travelers considering a booking should check the resort’s own site for current pricing and what is included before they commit.
