British Airways has unveiled a codeshare with Mexican low-cost carrier Viva that reaches 13 destinations across Mexico. The partnership was announced on November 3 and takes effect from March 28, 2027, with tickets sold as a single booking on the British Airways website under a BA flight code.
The connections run through two gateways. Via Mexico City, passengers can reach Guadalajara, Veracruz, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Cancún, Mérida, San José del Cabo, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Puerto Vallarta and Tijuana. Via Cancún, the list includes Veracruz, León, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Querétaro, Chihuahua and Tijuana, so a few cities can be reached through either hub.
For travelers, the appeal is a single ticket instead of piecing together a separate domestic Mexican flight. British Airways Club members will earn Avios and tier points on the Viva-operated segments. BA says it has served Mexico for more than 60 years and operates to over 200 destinations, while Viva flies about 110 Airbus A320-family aircraft to more than 60 destinations.
Details that matter most to travelers were not included in the announcement, notably baggage allowances and minimum connection times between BA and Viva flights. Since low-cost carriers often charge for checked bags, it is worth checking how those fees are handled once the itineraries go on sale.
