For the first time in its history, easyJet is planning to offer internet connectivity on board. The British low-cost airline has announced that it will fit Starlink across its Airbus fleet, with a rapid roll-out due to begin in 2027.
The choice of provider is the notable part. Starlink, the satellite service run by SpaceX, has been picked up by a growing number of airlines, and easyJet’s own announcement describes it as the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky. The airline has not, in the material announced so far, been the type to compete on onboard extras, which makes the move a change of direction.
What remains to be seen is how passengers will pay. The details reported so far focus on the equipment and the timetable rather than the pricing, so it is not yet clear whether the service will be free, sold as an add-on or tied to particular fares. Those answers will shape how useful it feels on short European hops.
Nothing changes immediately. The fitting work is slated for 2027, so travelers booking flights over the coming winter should not expect to find Wi-Fi on board. It is worth watching easyJet’s announcements as the roll-out nears, since the first aircraft to carry the system will mark the start of a new kind of easyJet flight.
