Emirates Reportedly Wants Denver, Detroit and Philadelphia Next

Emirates is reported to be looking at three new US destinations: Denver, Detroit and Philadelphia. The reports, relayed in a daily aviation brief on November 6, describe the cities as part of a wider push by the Dubai-based airline to grow its American network.

It is important to keep this in proportion. These are not scheduled routes. The reporting describes Emirates as considering or eyeing the cities, which means there are no start dates, frequencies or aircraft types to book against, and plans of this kind can change before anything is filed with regulators or put on sale.

Still, the list is a useful hint about where long-haul demand might be heading. Each of the three cities is a major hub or population center in its region, and a nonstop to Dubai would give travelers there a single connection point to a large network across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.

For now, travelers in those cities should not expect to be able to buy tickets. The sensible move is to watch for an official announcement from the airline, which would confirm the routes and their timing. If any of them proceeds, it would add to the choice of long-haul carriers flying from those airports.
