A Whole Month Without Naples Airport: Here’s the Salerno Workaround

Naples Airport, the main gateway for southern Italy’s most visited coastline, is closed from November 1 to November 30, 2026. The shutdown is for major runway rehabilitation work, and it means the airport known as Capodichino is not handling any commercial flights for the entire month.

Travelers heading to Naples are being pointed to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and Cilento Airport instead. Salerno sits closer to the Amalfi Coast than Naples does, so for some visitors the detour may be less painful than it sounds, though it will not suit everyone heading to the city itself.

To help with the transfer, new bus connections between Naples and Salerno airport were announced on October 27. The closure affects people bound for the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento and Capri, along with cruise passengers who normally fly in or out of Naples to join their ships.

Anyone with a flight booked in the next few weeks should check with their airline about where it will land and how to get from there to their final destination. Allow extra time for ground transfers, and confirm bus times before relying on them, since a month-long closure tends to reshuffle schedules across the whole region.
